Mum and BabyMum and baby yoga with Alison Goodwin BA BWY BWY(Preg) Mondays 1 - 2 pm St Columba's Church Hall, Priory Street, off Micklegate YO1 6EX £5 per session, all equipment provided (see below for details)
You can join the class at any time. Call Alison on 01904 799097 or email yogawithalison@yahoo.co.uk for details. Yoga is far and away the best post-natal exercise class, because it develops your intuition, encouraging you to trust yourself as a mother, as well as restoring your body confidence. Our class continues the support you enjoyed at our Yoga for Pregnancy classes – though you don’t have to have been to Yoga for Pregnancy to join. Each session includes time for discussion on aspects of parenting a young baby, with the emphasis on tuning into your instincts. Through sharing ideas and creating space to relax with your baby we will help you find your own way to be a parent – after all, every mother and every baby is unique. Yoga postures prepare you for the physical and mental challenges of parenthood and gently help restore strength and tone to post-natal bodies. Our breathing, stretching, strengthening and relaxation exercises are specifically designed. You will learn how to involve your baby in your yoga practice, protect your back when caring for your baby and how to relax together. Classes include gentle movement and sound practices to relax the babies. Babies benefit from a more relaxed mum, and having a few ideas to calm and settle your baby enhances your relationship and daily routine. We are delighted that so many fathers are actively involved with their babies and understand that many care full or part time for their children – so Dads are very welcome to join us to share the benefits of yoga and spending time with other parents.
Our class is at St. Columbas’ Basement Hall, Priory St, off Micklegate, The hall is down some wide steps that are easily negotiated with a pram or pushchair. The fee is £5 per class. Try one class, then pay for the remainder of the half-term, with one class refundable for absence. Book and pay for the whole term and receive two free classes, with one class refundable for absence. We recommend that you start the class from six weeks after the birth of your baby but do speak to your GP, Midwife or Health Visitor if you have any concerns or there were complications with your birth. There is no need to book for this class. Equipment is provided. Alison Goodwin has a son, Joe, born in October 2007, and her teaching is firmly grounded in personal experience of parenting a young baby. She holds the British Wheel of Yoga teaching diploma (BWY Dip) and has completed the specialist module in Yoga for Pregnancy and post-natal yoga. She also has a special interest in integrating breathing practices into yoga classes and is certified in the Foundations of Pranayama with Philip Xerri.
